According to 1000 Friends of Iowa, the [Best Development Awards] help bring attention to individuals and groups that “demonstrate how responsible development and planning practices provide benefits to the community, the environment, and quality of life for future generations” through projects that help advance sustainability in Iowa.
For the Innovative Leadership category specifically, submitted projects must demonstrate “exemplary work” within fields such as sustainable development, smart growth principals or farmland/natural areas protection. These projects also must demonstrate examples of advocacy, conservation, community outreach, vision and the ability to be replicated as a model of success and inspiration for others.
